Hutton-le-Hole set within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is one of North Yorkshire's most picturesque and popular villages. Only 45 minutes drive from either York or the coast it is ideally situated for either walking, exploring Yorkshire or just taking a relaxing break. You will find the village pub which offers good home cooked food, the Ryedale Folk Museum, teashops, gift shops and craft workshops are all within a short walk.

  • Hutton le Hole is priveleged to have a museum of quite some renown in the academic world. It is an open air, living museum with over twenty buildings situated in about 5 acres of land. There is an Iron Age Roundhouse as well as two Tudor buildings that were taken down stone by stone and transported to the museum from their original locations and re erected on site, as was the Victorian Cottage. Other attractions are a working Blacksmiths and a 1950's sweet shop that actually sells sweets.

  • This very local but expanding business is one of the must see crafts in the village where you can watch either Wendy and Phil making their fabulous creations of glass, ceramics or wood. Being handmade each item is a totally unique piece of art. Commission either of them to make a piece to your own design and you will know it has been made with the intricacy of an artist working only for you. Both Wendy and Phil run classes in their respective disciplines (either one on one or in small groups)

  • Chris is a specialist artist in wax. His candles are not only functional but a thing of beauty as well. If you ask him nicely he will make you a personalised creation to take home, but because of the meticulous care taken in producing such works of art, it might take a day or two. Talk to him, he knows best what time scales he can work too. The older generation beware!! If you ask for "Four Candles" you may be turned into Ronnie Bar

  • War Weekend (10 mi)
  • The North York Moors Railway runs a war weekend every year in October. It attracts thousands of people, not only from all over England, but also from other countries around the world. Pickering is taken over by people who dress up in period costumes and military uniforms. Mock battles are performed along the full lenght of the railway. There is a full parade of (mock) military personel and vehicles through the Market Place of Pickering and the salute is usually taken by Montgomery or Churchill.

  • Every year Hutton le Hole holds its anual FREE bonfire night where drinks and food are offered for modest prices while one of the most spectacular firework displays in the area is enjoyed in total safety

  • Every year Hutton-le-Hole holds a really traditional village fete. Held on the village green opposite the village pub and the nationally renowned "Ryedale Folk Museum" it is a spectacular event with all the fun of the occasion. We even use the little beck that runs through the village to stage our annual Duck Race, great fun for all the family especially the children and non children. Pickering

On the A170 Scarborough to Thirsk road turn North approx 1/4 mile East of Kirkbymoorside, signed Castleton and Hutton le Hole. Follow this road untill you enter the village. Burnley House is the large house facing down the road towards you. Car parking is through the gap in the wall just past the main building. The most common entrance to the house from the car park is via the back garden.

On the A171 Middlesborough to Whitby road turn South just East of the Lockwood Beck Reservoir signposted Castleton, Hutton le Hole. In Castleton turn right at the "T" junction and follow the road for about 15 miles. On entering Hutton le Hole go past the village green on your Right. Burnley House is on your right just after the Village Hall and just before another area of grass. Entrance to the car park is imediately after the Village Hall.
